A kitchen remodel has more than one timeline. The period spent planning and ordering is different from the period when construction affects your home. A useful schedule explains both, along with the decisions and dependencies that determine when each stage can move forward.
Define the Scope Before Comparing Durations
A finish-focused renovation and a kitchen that changes walls, services and adjoining spaces involve different work. Even similar-looking kitchens may have different existing conditions or material requirements. A fixed duration offered without reviewing the scope should be treated as preliminary.
Ask when the kitchen will become unavailable, which activities will be affected and what milestones restore useful functions. The date of initial planning is not the same as the start of demolition or final completion.

Allow Time for Design and Selections
Layout, cabinetry, appliances, surfaces and lighting need to be coordinated. Decisions depend on one another: a selected appliance can influence the cabinet plan, and a layout change can affect utility work.
Keep a clear record of approvals and outstanding choices. Ask which decisions are needed next and which are most likely to affect the schedule. A focused response at the right point is more useful than trying to choose every decorative detail at once.
Review Procurement and Approvals
Confirm current availability for the actual products being ordered. Ask what is in stock, what is made to order and what depends on another selection. A supplier’s estimated delivery date should be distinguished from an item that has been received and checked.
Where permits or other approvals are required, discuss their place in the sequence. Review timing with the relevant project professionals; approval periods and requests for additional information vary with the property and scope.

Understand the Construction Dependencies
Construction involves a sequence of related tasks. Concealed work may need to be completed and inspected before surfaces are closed. Cabinets may need to be installed before a countertop can be measured. Final connections depend on the readiness of the relevant fixtures and surfaces.
Ask the team to explain the major milestones rather than expecting every trade to work simultaneously. Discuss how site conditions, revised selections or approved scope changes would affect the plan.
Plan Household Arrangements and Completion
Prepare for food storage, cooking, cleanup and access during the affected period. Identify routines that are particularly difficult to interrupt and discuss them before the construction schedule is agreed.
The final stage should include a walkthrough, a record of remaining items and relevant product information. Clarify what completion means in the agreement and how any outstanding work will be communicated.
