Build a Brief Around the Problems You Want to Solve
Write down what works in the current kitchen and what interrupts daily life. Perhaps preparation space is limited, storage is difficult to reach or guests gather in the cooking route. Include the features you want to retain as well as those you want to change.
Bring photographs and an existing floor plan if available. Inspiration images are helpful when you explain what you like about them: the light, the storage, the proportions or a particular material. That gives the team useful direction without assuming the same arrangement will fit your home.
Agree on Priorities and an Investment Range
Separate essentials from optional upgrades. If the budget requires a choice, would you protect the layout change, a particular cabinet configuration or an appliance feature? Understanding that order early makes later decisions more focused.
Ask what is known, what is provisional and what needs investigation. A preliminary conversation should lead to clearer next steps, including the information needed to define scope and prepare a meaningful proposal.
Connect the Design to the Existing House
The proposed kitchen needs to work with the building around it. Discuss walls, openings, utilities, ventilation, flooring transitions and access. When changes extend into adjoining spaces, define those boundaries in the project.

A shared record of decisions is more useful than relying on several separate conversations or saved screenshots.
Plan for Construction and Handover
Discuss access, temporary cooking arrangements and the routines that will be affected. Before completion, ask how the walkthrough, remaining items and product information will be handled. These are part of planning the experience, not just choosing the appearance.
